Travel Caye Caulker
La Isla Cariñosa | The Friendly Island
Caye Caulker is a 5.5-mile scenic island where life moves slow, conversations are easy, and the days revolve around the water. Known for its vibrant marine life, delicious food, and stunning sunsets, this small island off the coast of Belize embodies the country’s signature go slow philosophy. It’s the kind of place where you’ll quickly learn the faces of community mainstays and leave feeling genuinely connected to the people you met. If you’re drawn to chill, laid-back vibes and smaller islands that feel simple and lived-in, Caye Caulker is an easy recommendation and a hard place to say goodbye to.
Where to Stay
Blu Zen Resort is located on the north side of Caye Caulker, which is quieter and more residential than the main part of the island, and that’s what makes staying here feel like a retreat. The accommodations are spacious apartment-style units with full kitchens, separate living spaces, and large balconies overlooking the water.
Because the resort is on the north island, you have to take the water taxi back and forth to the south island where most of the restaurants, beach bars, and activity centers are located. I actually loved this part of the experience because the boat ride becomes part of your daily routine, and it naturally creates a slower pace to the day.
I also loved the staff at Blu Zen and the on-site restaurant and bar. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful, and the food and drinks on the property are genuinely good, which is important for the nights when you don’t feel like catching the water taxi back into town. Between the pool, the water views, the large rooms, and the quieter location, it’s a really good option for travelers who want to experience Caye Caulker but don’t necessarily want to stay in the busiest part of the island the entire time.
Caye Caulker is a 5.5-mile scenic island off the coast of Belize with the friendliest people, amazing marine life, great food, and brilliant sunsets. You’ll definitely get to know people before you leave, and it’s truly a joy to do so. Life moves slower here, and that’s part of the charm. Barefoot strolls along three main streets, a tray full of jerk chicken, beans and rice—it’s so easy to feel at home.
