Where To Eat In Caye Caulker, Belize | 7 Places To Try

Food may just be my favorite part of traveling and that won’t be your last time seeing me say that. This tiny island off the coast of Belize is known for sandy streets, chill energy, and meals that feel like happy accidents. Fresh seafood, roadside grills, open-air bars, and family-run spots make eating here super simple and easy. With so many options packed into a small space, it helps to know where to go.

Here are some of the places I can recommend.

1. Maggie’s Sunset Kitchen

Here I had stewed chicken with rice and beans, mashed potatoes and plantains. This was hands down the best food I had while I was there.

2. Chef Kareem’s Unbelizable Lunch

This was not a place I ate, because he closes earlier than many of the other places, but I did have a chat with Chef Kareem who is a real sweetheart. His restaurant is not in an actual building but rather a roadside grill on front street. His food comes highly recommended so I would definitely stop by and give him a try.

3. Errolyn’s House of Fryjacks

Errolyn’s is only open in the morning, and it’s a really good place to get the famous Belizean fryjacks, which is a traditional Belizean dish that is deep fried dough stuffed with various items. It’s inexpensive, around eight dollars, and you shouldn’t have to wait long. There are several fryjack filling options, but I went with scrambled eggs and chicken.

4. Il Pellicano Cucina

This was another place I did not make it to because I wasn’t in the mood for Italian food, but it was recommended to me by several people as the best place on the island for pasta and other Italian food. It is considered one of the more “upscale” restaurants on the island.

5. La Cubana

La Cubana is just by the ferry and has a wide range of menu items. I had the cuban sandwich, which is their specialty, and I also had a simple chicken and cheese quesadilla here as well. The food is decent, not great, but it got the job done for quicker, simpler meals.

6. Ice and Beans

Here is your spot for coffee if you’re that kind of person. It’s like the Starbucks of the island and everyone loves it. They also have food and other drinks like icees if you’re not crazy about coffee.

7. Bamboozle

I had really great lobster and garlic bread here, and the staff is incredibly sweet, as are most people on the island. It’s a cute little open-air vibe that I really liked.
